How a price per unit is made
A sticker price says little until you know what is in the pack. Supplementscanner reads both and divides one by the other, the same way for every store in a market.
What we read
For every product a store lists, we read its price, whether it is in stock, and what the pack holds: its weight, its number of servings or its number of capsules. Where a store publishes this in a form we can read directly, we read it there; otherwise we extract it from the product page.
One basis per category
Every category is compared on one basis, and every product in it is priced on that basis. Where a pack states its size in a way we cannot read, the product is shown without a price per unit rather than with a guessed one.
- per kg
- Powders and everything else sold by weight.
- per serving
- Products whose label counts servings.
- per capsule
- Capsules, tablets and softgels, counted one by one.
How fresh the prices are
Prices are checked continuously. Products whose price changes often, and products near the top of a ranking, are checked more often than the rest. Every country site shows when its market was last scanned.
What we do not compare
- Quality, purity or effect. We compare what a product costs per unit, not what it does.
- The same item across stores. Each store's listing stands on its own: we compare listings per unit and never claim that two stores sell one identical product.
- Countries in one ranking. Each market is scanned and ranked on its own, in its own currency.
Who pays us
Some buy links are affiliate links: a store may pay a commission when someone buys through one. Commission plays no part in the order. Rankings follow the price per unit.
